That’s right folks, the moment we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived. Xbox and Bethesda finally revealed what they’ve been working on and what we can expect in the coming year and it’s the equivalent of a well-stocked all you can eat buffet for every single subscriber of Xbox Game Pass.
Saying that I’m excited is an understatement, to say the least because I guarantee I sat watching the show with both my arms periodically shooting into the air as I screamed “Yes!” as quietly as I could (so I didn’t wake up anybody else in the house). The hype is simply unparalleled.
They showed us 30 games in total and, out of all these new releases, 27 of them are coming to Game Pass the very same day that they are released to every other platform. It sounds almost too good to be true but it is and this skyrockets the value of Xbox’s innovative subscription service.
I’ve picked 4 of the games that I’m looking forward to the most in the coming months and one that’s already available on Game Pass as I type this paragraph. From epic space operas we know and love to the first-person zombie mayhem preparing to make a comeback, I can barely contain my excitement.
The ‘Netflix of games’ as they call it and I wouldn’t be surprised if this is how we consume all the new games that get released in the next few years, regardless of the platform you play on. So, without further ado, here are the games that I’m looking forward to in the next few months.
XBOX & BETHESDA E3
Back 4 Blood
Developer: Turtle Rock Studios
Date: October 2021
Valve shocked the world over a decade ago with the release of Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 almost back to back, and fans of the genre have been waiting all this time for a follow-up that simply wasn’t meant to be. That was until Turtlerock Studios decided to take matters into their own hands.
Now finally the zombie game that we’ve all been waiting for has finally been revealed and it’s coming to Xbox Game Pass day one. Featuring unique heroes to choose from and a PvP mode that’s already got my interest piqued. Safe to say I’m going to be spending a lot of my time slaying every zombie in sight.
Developer: 343 Industries
Date: Holiday 2021
343 shocked the world last year with their reveal of Halo Infinite and not in a good way. But after a year of well-deserved memes and jokes, the titans of Xbox have returned to show us all once again why Halo is still the flagship franchise that still gets celebrated to his day.
Not only is the multiplayer going to be free-to-play, but the epic single-player campaign is going to be available Day One for every Xbox Game Pass subscriber. This is a moment in gaming history that we all get to be a part of. So if you’re not aboard the Halo Infinite hype train yet then consider this your free ticket to join
Forza Horizon 5
Developer: Playground Games
Date: November 9th, 2021
The Forza Horizon series has become well-known for creating a beautiful and engaging open-world experience and it seems like Xbox Game Studios are set to do it again with the release of Forza Horizon 5. There’s been a lot of debate about what the next location would be and this year’s showcase gave us the answer we’ve been waiting for.
We’ve left the rolling hills of Great Britain in Horizon 4 and now get the opportunity to explore the vast landscape that is Mexico. From dense and lush jungles to dry and endless deserts, there’s something for every kind of driver, every kind of car, and any kind of game mode you love.
Developer: Double Fine Productions
Date: August 25th, 2021
While the original Psychonauts failed to impress the market when it was first released, it was destined to gain cult status in the years to follow and that popularity only seemed to grow with the announcement that this beloved game would finally get it’s long awaited sequel…back in 2018.
But delaying a game is sometimes the better option. We all learned that the hard way with Cyberpunk, but finally, the date has been set and it looks like Psychonauts 2 will make its big debut this year. And with the original game already available on Xbox Game Pass, there’s never been a better.
Yakuza: Like A Dragon
Developer: Ryu ga Gotoku Studio
Date: Available Now
With nearly every mainline Yakuza game already on Game Pass, it was only a matter of time before the new and improved Yakuza: Like a Dragon made its way onto the service as well. While it may not be as new as the other games I mentioned, it’s one that I’ve had my eye on for quite some time.
They completely revamped the combat from your beat ’em up brawler into a turn-based style similar to most JRPGs. The change was so loved by fans that the studio announced they would keep this style moving and it looks like it’s finally time to experience all of it for myself.
It’s Gonna Be A Good Year
With each passing year, Game Pass continues to defy the doubters and prove that it’s a service worth taking note of no matter which platform you play on. The ease of accessibility and the extreme value that comes with it is more than enough to keep me subscribed for many more months to come.
There were way more games announced but out of all of them, these are the ones I’m looking forward to playing the most, and can’t wait to see them on Game Pass day one. And just when I started to think I was finally putting a dent in my backlog. So many games, so little time…
