Best Controller For Xbox Cloud Gaming in 2021

Bwst Controller for Xbox Cloud Gaming

With the rise of cloud gaming, it’s no wonder that mobile gaming controllers are being needed more and more and I, honestly, didn’t expect to get on board with this innovation until I tried it for myself. Needless to say, Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming have changed the mobile landscape for me.

But, is a standard Xbox One/Series X controllers the only option we have out there? Am I restricted to using the controller that came with my console?  Well, I’m happy to tell you that Microsoft isn’t the only one making controllers specifically designed for Xcloud and there are more than a few options to choose from that can enhance your mobile gaming experience.

Whether you’re into A-symmetrical analog sticks or not, whether you’re into the standard Xbox controller design or the new telescopic design that’s taking the world by storm, there’s a controller that’s right for everybody, and today, I’ve put together a list of the best controllers made specifically for Xbox Cloud Gaming.

The focus is all about portability and ease of access while also looking pretty damn cool at the same time. Plus, they have to do a good job of replicating that authentic console controller feeling anywhere you are. So, without further ado, here’s my list of the best controllers for Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Razer Kishi

Product: Mobile Gaming Controller

Brand: Razer

Price: $99.41

Best Place To Buy: Amazon

Razer is one of the most recognizable brands in gaming and has solidified its reputation with some of the best peripherals on the market. While they’ve always been a one-stop-shop if you’re in need of an RGB keyboard or top tier gaming mouse, they’ve recently expanded into the mobile scene as well.

Unlike most mobile gaming controllers that work via Bluetooth, the Kishi separates itself from the pack by plugging directly into your Android device using a Type-C connection, so you’ll never have to deal with input lag and the telescopic design means it can fit most Android devices with ease.

It’s the closest experience you can get to using a standard console controller and, with its compact design, can easily be transported with you to keep playing your favorite Xbox games on the go. The only downside though would be the fact that this controller has to be connected to your phone at all times.

This is because the Razer Kishi does not have any internal power source. It’s all powered by your smartphone using the Lightning connectors on the Type-C port so it can’t be used independently no matter how appealing the idea might be. It definitely would have been great to have the option to use a controller like this in its smaller compact form without a device attached.

Product: Mobile Gaming Controller

Brand: PowerA

Price: $54.99

Best Place To Buy: Amazon

Now, if the telescopic design of the Kishi wasn’t really your thing, then let me turn your attention to something that’s a lot closer to the standard design of an Xbox One/Series X controller. PowerA has been the pioneering force behind the mobile gaming controller industry and it’s no surprise to see them come up with something that’s primarily focused on mobile gaming.

What I love the most about this controller are the two extra buttons that you can find on the back. They’re completely remappable and cater perfectly to die-hard first-person shooter fans (like me) since you’ll never need to take your thumb off the right analog stick.

It’s the next best thing to having extra paddles or your very own strike mod attachment and all this from a device designed for gaming on the go. A fact further emphasized by the phone clip that has been optimally balanced and made completely adjustable to fit any device up to 3.12″ wide.

Not to mention the fact that you also have the option to play wired as well. It’s no secret that input lag can sometimes be a problem when connected to an Android device via Bluetooth but this controller gives you the option to plug the controller directly into your phone using a Type-C connection.

8Bitdo Sn30 Pro

Product: Mobile Gaming Controller

Brand: 8Bitdo

Price: $44.99

Best Place To Buy: Amazon

8Bitdo have been blazing a trail for years with their one-of-a-kind 3rd party controllers tailor-made for the Nintendo Switch but, what put them on the map were their retro designs. They brought the old skool into the future with controllers that strongly resemble the original NES/SNES controllers as well as the Sega Genesis.

And now, they have a brand variant on the shelf that is built specifically for Xbox and Cloud Gaming. Complete with its very own phone clip, this unique controller is equipped with everything you need from a standard controller but in a very light and compact form.

It is, by far, the most portable out of the bunch but the one major drawback that I have with this controller is the fact that the analog sticks are in a symmetrical layout, which resembles more of a PS4 design. Even on standard controllers, I find this layout to be absolutely annoying.

Not to mention the fact that this controller only comes wireless and does not have the option to connect directly to your phone. I’d prefer not to have to gamble with input lag and that’s why a wired connection is best but still, it’s a fantastic controller that can easily find its place in your mobile gaming setup.

Which One Should I Choose

We all live different lives and, as a result, have different needs when it comes to mobile gaming, especially on Xbox Cloud Gaming, but these controllers are the first step to finding the right setup for you. I have been an avid user of mobile gaming controllers for years, starting out all the way back with the iPega Ninja, and these certainly deliver a premium gaming experience that you expect when playing your favorite Xbox games.

While it’s still not as mainstream as its regular console gaming, the mobile game streaming market grows bigger every year and it’s only a matter of time before it’s as common to see someone with a controller like these as it is to see someone playing on their tough screen.

Have you started playing Xbox on mobile? Which controller would you choose for Xbox Cloud Gaming? Let me know in the comments section below

I started gamming at home, sitting on a kitchen chair and in front of my PC. Those times have long gone by. But now, I find myself gaming on my phone half of the day. So it’s time to get a good controller. I really like the PowerA MOGA XP5-X. I will buy it, thank you for helping me choose the best one for me.
